Divvy has become an essential part of my workflow in terms of how I manage my open windows. It is simple and easy to use yet is extremely intuitive and robust at the same time. Esp on OSX without the more useful Windows 7 features to drag to the edges of the screen to resize my window to that half portion, Divvy is a way to get it done. Keeping again with OSX themes you can create your own keyboard shortcuts to resize windows to your liking. Perhaps a little pricy, but definately worth the price of admission if efficient window management is important to you.
Im a keyboard shortcut user (that, or working in an editor or terminal), so this sounded great, but it ultimately proved not to have the flexibility I needed. I was served better by a window snap tool (supports keyboard shortcuts and mouse gestures). So, you may ask, why the 2-star rating for something that maybe just wasnt a good fit, then? Simple: Divvys price tag places it in the premium end of the spectrum for window placement apps, yet much cheaper apps do everything Divvy does and more.
Definitely a must have if youre using multiple monitors. I cant even picture my workflow without this application now. Great job! Only bug Ive noticed so far is sometimes it will oddly forget my custom grid appearance settings and revert to having a very high row/column grid count. To fix I have to close Divvy and open it again. Its rare, but annoying non-the-less. Anyway, aside for that this app is amazing. Why havent you installed it yet?
Literally every window/program/everything on my Mac now adheres to a grid of my own design. This is brilliance and pure, unadulterated love!
A great little app. Simple. Works. I use Wirecast to broadcast to the web and need certain windows sized and placed in the same, repeatable place. Divvy does the trick. Also helps wiht OCD ;)
This is a simple, very intuivite tool which helps you to resize your windows with key short cuts which you can predefine in a flexible way. I use it all the time. I bought it when it was on sale (for a couple of dollars) and am happy with it. Wouldnt say it is worth $14, though, since there seem to be some other similar apps around. Update on Nov. 13 2015: Afer some glitch in the Appstore the app didn’t work for a couple of days. The update came fast and fixed the problem — so I am still very happy with Divvy.
Works as advertised. Use it all the time.
This is the best - so much configuration (option to devide even more) - shortcut assignable by yourself (Global or local) ウィンドウスイッチングとして最高です ・選べる大きさ (オプションで細くなります) ・全てにショートカットキーを登録(グローバルにできます)
I’m a die hard fan of this application, however over the time I realised it’s a bit too slow, esp. if CPU is a bit pushed there’s a noticeable lag until Divvy’s HUD window appears, so I often already pressed the shortcut key before it appeared and key was registered in top most application increasing my frustration. After 4 years I’ve switched to Magnet.
Works great on dual head mac. I use Divvy every day since since August 2010 and happy with it. Recommend to assign global shortcuts first.
Big productivite boost, espechially if you have mutliple displays
Divvy is just a rock solid software which sits in the background and always gets the job done for years. Has awesome interface to arrange windows by mouse and you can also map hotkeys to arrangements. No mental scheme to remember as in other window managers, just do whatever you like. No problems with margins from the screen borders or multiple monitors.
Pros: * Keyboard shortcut options. * Minimal resource consumption / light weight. Cons: * Lack of configuration of focus. Imagine the following scenario, you have two displays. You have one window selected on display 1, but your mouse is on display 2. Execute a divvy commany on the focused window on display 1. The result is that your window jumps to display 2. It would be nice if the app provided an option of which focus takes priority, currently selected window or mouse location. Alfred currently provides this configuration. Well worth the money. I would be willing to pay for an update to support continued development.
I purchased this app earlier this year and have found it to be a useful tool for managing windows. With the recent release of Sierra, it appears that it is now loading twice for whatever reason in the toolbar.
The release of Sierra makes it load twice in the toolbar, where one of the instances glitches to a white box every now and then. Further, should blur the background of the black box to match rest of the UI of macOS to make it more seamless. Could also use configuration for multiple displays. Otherwise, this program is wonderful, and I use it several times a day.
Ive tried several apps that position various app windows. This was the easy winner. I use it all the time. Its like second nature. I have recommended it to several friends. Well designed. Easy to use. Fast. Whats not to like?
LOVE this utility and I completely agree with everyone else that Apple should integrate this into OS X. I have zero complaints except for 1 thing: neither I nor my buddy that I work with are able to get it to start up at login on either of our MacBook Pros… Other than that, killer app!
