Divvy - Window Manager App Reviews

Geat little tool

Verry well thought out UI. Lots of functionality. Easy to setup… Good product.

Essential

This is one of my favorite applications. Whenever I encounter a mac without it or an alternative I am lost. Seriously, what do people do? I love it particularly for the global shortcuts. I’ve got CMD-UP for full screen, CMD-LEFT/CMD-RIGHT for half screen, etc. Anyway, I’ve been using this for a few years now and I noticed the updated menu bar icon so I wanted to review it while I was thinking about it just to say thanks to the dev(s) for keeping this program up to date.

Thank You!

I have been using your application for a few years now, and I really just want to say thanks. You always update and spend time and effort on the application, even after you’ve sold your product and there is no new financial incentive to support new operating systems. I love the ability to completely grid my desktop applications and though I allow few apps to open on start-up yours is one of them. Keep up the great work!

Great, but current version beachballs.

I love this program, and updated my version this morning. Unfortunately, the current version of Divvy hangs and is unresponsive on 10.8.5 - 10/31/2014

Not working after updated

I have always loved this program but It doesn’t work at all after updated. I am using Mac OS Yosemite. (v10.10). Please fix this asap. Thanks!

Super Helpful

Greatly increases productivity, thanks so much

Love IT

I’ve been using this for a few years and it works great and simple! Better yet - I just realized if you have DUAL monitors - you can hit your short cut twice and it will auto switch to the other monitor…..very cool. That is not very clear in their instructions…but much needed! So I use Cmd 1 and it goes full size….if I hit Cmd 1 again - it jumps to my next screen! Perfect!!!!

Essential App!

I cherish Divvy. Saves me time, maximizes real estate, increases productivity. Worth every penny.

2014 new Mac Pro-Yosemite10.10.1:

The short cut keys are not responding. Plz fix bugs!

Worth the money

I’ve been using a similar app that just wasn’t cutting it, and it couldn’t “handle” a lot of applications, like apache open office. I was pretty happy after downloading Divvy and seeing how much better it works! If you’re a cinch user and are thinking of converting, definetly do so. With the shortcuts and different sizes you can choose from, this app is a winner.

VERY Impressed

I was hesitant to spend this much $$$ on a window management app. However, i’m running 3 monitors and it has been a pain point. Saying that - all my problems solved. Best money I have ever spent in the app store, don’t hesitate to purchase!

Nice App, Would be better if...

Nice app for single monitor use. Multi-monitor is almost there. Shortcuts do not remember which screen they are associated with. Because of this a window will either snap to it’s position on the preferred monitor or any other monitor. Repeatedly pressing the same shortcut key will cycle through the monitors until you find the correct one. At first I thought it was malfunctioning until I realized that Divvy doesn’t differentiate it’s short cuts by monitor. For example, Snap Left Monitor 1 is exactly the same as Snap Left Monitor 2. It would be substantially better if the shortcuts were specific to the monitor where you set them. You can disable cycling through monitors, however this means that the window will snap to the position on its current monitor only which may not be where you are trying to go. Otherwise this app works well. If you don’t use shortcuts with multiple monitors, then you should find this to be a very good solution.

Very useful application

Finally I can orgonize windows as I wish, especially with hot keys. Thank you.

overdue

This review is long over due, just bought a macbook pro and this is the first application I am installing.. if that tells you anything. Thanks for a great and simple tool

Doesn’t Work

Unfortunately, this application doesn’t work on my 2011 MacBook Air, running the latest version of Yosemite with plenty of solid-state memory. And yes, I read the 18-page pdf manual. Restarting doesn’t work, the two arrows never appear in the menu bar, and the Accessibility Preference doesn’t work with Security & Privacy. I could really use an app that would do what this one claims to do. At least I’m glad that this one wasn’t very expensive.

Solves window management in OS X

Divvy gives you the ability to create global keyboard shortcuts for pre-set window sizes. It’s a must for making the most of your retina display, and it’s a steal at $2.

Missing Snap to Borders functionality

Divvy doesnt provide any option to drag a window to the edge of the screen to snap it to one side.

Took a while, but I love it...

I’m not someone that uses keyboard shortcuts too often, but they always sound good to me. So I bought Divvy and it sat there for a while. As a developer, I often have many windows up on the screen either expanded to full screen or split between them. With Yosemite, I hate the new expand button and was constantly fighting to find the right positions, etc. for the various windows I commonly have up. Then I remembered I bought Divvy. A little while later and now I have a few simple keystrokes to put the windows exactly where I want them. It’s so much easier than trying to drag these stupid things around! I’m just embarrassed that it took me this long.

Perfect!

Maximize windows with a keystroke (a real maximize, not the new “full-screen” thing). I set up Cmd-[NumPad Key] to put things where I want them. Cmd-7 puts a window into the upper left quadrant of the screen, Cmd-9 does upper-right quadrant, Cmd-8 Fills the top half of the screen, Cmd-4 uses the left half of the screen, and so on. I mapped Cmd-5 to maximize the window to the full screen. This utility has raised my productivity. 5 stars!

Perfect window manager for my needs!

I’ve been using Divvy for years. It does exactly what I need it to do, which is allow me to create global shortcuts to quickly arrange windows. Sounds simple, but it’s a fundamental part of how I work. The grid layout is intuitive, and when I bought a laptop with a smaller screen I was happy to find that you can add rows/columns, giving you fine-grained control of window sizes. I was devastated when an update to OS X took the app out of commission, but the devs released a fix in less than two days! What more could you ask for?
