Divvy - Window Manager App Reviews

Fantastic for organization

Well recommended for anyone who needs to look at several windows at once.

Awsome Application. Wish you could arrange multi windows at once

Its a great application. I just wish I could put my last 4 used or two used windows in place in one shortcut instead of selecting applications one by one. Definately much better than dragging. Another idea would be to have two specific application launch and stay side by side. For example, I always use eclipse with Google Chrome side by side. If I could have a shortcut to actually put those two apps in the exact layout that I want (if not open, even open them) it would be SOOO much better

One of the most useful tools you can have on a Mac

If you have a large screen display, then this app will save you time and frustration. This functionality exists in Windows 7 (and up) and should definitely be a part of OSX. Thanks to Misage for making such an easy to use and fantastic solution. Divvy makes it easy to set up shortcuts for most any window combination and easily arrange the windows. I use Option-Command-[left arrow] to move windows to the left 50% of the screen, Option-Command-[right arrow] to move windows to the right side of the screen, and Option-Command-[up-arrow] to make the window take up 100% of the screen. The best way to learn this program is to watch the video at the developers website. Spending 5 minutes there will pay huge dividends.

great keyboard support. still no drag and snap.

Pros: * keyboard shortcut options * minimal resource consumption / light weight Cons: * drag and snapping to window edges * can have strange behavior on multiple displays. for instance, every so often a shortcut will move the window to a different display. this is a great feature in windows 7 but the behavior with divvy is not consistent enough to be useful. Well worth the money. Id be more than willing to pay full price for a second update that addresses what i consider lack of functionality.

Simply Perfect

It does what it says. I use this all the time, especially when copying files from one folder to another folder.

Fantastically Simple and Easy Use To Use APP

Im a web developer and this APP fits my workflow perfectly, I use it on a daily basis to rearrange open applications across all of my monitors. Its easy to set up multiple keyboard shortcuts even though I only use one because manually rearranging each window is such a breeze.

Okay

I have an 11inch MacBook Air, and this is the most valuble program I have on here. Its super frustrating to organize windows around the screen. Divvy puts all of that behind a few keystrokes! Productivity is up 1 billion percent, and frustration is down to zero! Thanks Divvy! *EDIT* Bettersnap tool is waaaay cheaper and has 1000X more features and functionality. Catch up, Divvy, youre falling behind.

Excellent App!

Windows has had this for a while oddly enough, calling it Snap. Its one of the only good features that Microsoft has come out with lately. That being said, Divvy gives roughly the same "Snap" feature where is was sorely lacking, OS X. I keep Divvy in my dock at all times. Thats how much I use it. And with the latest update, its now WAY faster and more responsive. Apple should just buy this app and include it in every version of OS X, its that good!

Couldn’t live without it.

I’ve been using this app for so long, and it’s such a core part of my workflow, I forget that it’s not built into the OS. It’s the first thing I put on friends computers when they get new macs. This, combined with jiTouch, and Alfred, is an unstoppable combo. I set up a trackpad shortcut with JiTouch to launch divvy. I roll my fingers from pinky to index (like you naturally would tap your fingers on a desk while waiting for something) on the window i want to resize, and divvy’s selector shows up. boom.

Great utility for any power user.

Divvy sped up my workflow tremendously. I setup a ton of keyboard shortcuts allowing me to manage my windows like a pro. Also, if you have multiple monitors, you can repeatedly press your shortcut keys, and Divvy will automatically move your current window to other monitors. It’s really nice. There is one little bug since Mavericks. When I plug in my secondary and tertiary monitors after Divvy has already started, I must restart Divvy before it will recognize all three monitors and quick switch between them all.

Great App

If you are looking for a utility app to resize windows, look no further. This is the single best, most customizable app for managing your window sizes I’ve found. Don’t think twice, just buy it, you won’t regret it. Congrats to Mizage for such a great app!

Doesn’t work all of a sudden!

I upgraded to Maverick OS and also upgraded to the latest version of Divvy and now it keeps telling me that Divvy requires Accessibility. The prolem is accessibility is already enabled! I’ve restarted and reinstalled, still the same problem. A real shame too, Divvy used to be one of my most favorite apps.

Quickest way to manage window placement.

Great app! The shortcut keys make it super fast to put a windows in specific pre-configures locations.

Minor Issue, Great Service

The software and service are both top notch. I have been using Divvy with no issues at all for years. I recently had a minor issue on first install on my new Macbook Pro Retina, but after emailing support and receiving a recommendation on a resolution within a few hours, it’s working flawlessly and I’m once again a happy customer. Divvy is such an essential part of my workflow, it was one of the first things I installed on my new machine.

Worth it.

I’m definitely a “power user” and have multiple windows open on my Mac at all times. I find that Divvy is a great tool to keep them all managed. At first I thought, “wow, I dunno if it’s worth that much money”, but I went ahead and gave them the benefit of the doubt. You know what? I’m glad I did. It’s worth the money you pay.

Ok, but not worth $14

I bought this because of everyones glowing reviews, but I was a little disappointed. I use multiple monitors, and I switch my windows between monitors all day. I really only needed this tool to do 1 thing, be able to split windows into 50% left and right, and to full screen the window (as in full width). Should be pretty simple for a tool like this except when switching between windows on different monitors it constantly gets the resize wrong and I find I need to move and Shift+Click the green maximize button to fix it, which kind of defeats the purpose of this tool. For example, I have a browser open on my 30" monitor, I press my hot key for full screen and it works fine. I move the window down onto my 13" retina display and press the same hot key and it now sizes the window about 200px too big to fit and I lose my tool bar and have to manually resize the window. Now Iv just introduced a second step into my window resizing process that wasnt there before. In the end, I just end up doing it my self manually. Sometimes it does this, sometimes it doesnt. I cant figure out why. If Im only using 1 monitor, then the problem goes away. So obviously the switch between retina and non-retina is less than perfect. Bit annoyed I spent $14

Great product

The product does exactly as advertised, allowing you to control the window split screen functionality. Mac OS should have this feature built into the OS like Windows has had for years.

Perfect & works as advertised

This is the tool I use day in day out. At work I have 4 monitors connected and it works perfectly. I have wide range of shortcuts created which is set across globally and works seamlessly. $14 is little too high on the PRICE TAG for the app what it does but yeah never felt disappointed for paying that $$. Keep up the good work. Waiting to see what else will be added for upcoming OS support.

Money well spent

I purchased this app about a year ago because I heard good things about it from my developer friends online who were happy with it. I have to say that I was hesitant at first because of the price tag, but Divvy has proved itself to me each day since. I use it on each one of my machines at work and at home. My father once told me that the only things worth spending real money on are the things you touch every single day, and this software is one of those things. It just works…well. Every day. Once I set it up to match my workflow, I have not had to think about it ever again. It is always there when I need it in all kinds of different situations. At work I have two wide screens, and always have between two and three apps I am working between.; Divvy allows me to quickly set up my screens quickly and efficiently. At home I work from a laptop. Divvy lets me set up that one screen as quickly as possible, and just get to work. Divvy just works, and THAT is why I have come back a year later to write this review. Divvy is worth every penny because it works well, does not crash, and I use it every day. Every DAY.

Ok, but totally worth $14...

When I first saw the $13.99 price tag, Im sure I thought what a lot of people were thinking: "14 bucks! … For an app? That seems high for an app…" However, since I bought it, Ive used it every day - over and over again. I cant begin to tell you the amount of time Ive saved, and continue to save as I go about my work day. The ability to quickly span multiple windows across my two monitors is incredible - the sort of thing I didnt realize I needed until I got it. Windows has had the split window functionality thing for a while now and ive always wondered how that little trick never made it into Mac OS X… But i dont care anymore, Divvy does all of that and more. I think if you buy this app and it doesnt save you a tremendous amount of time in organizing your spreadsheets, email, browser, finder windows, photoshop, premier, or terminal windows, then frankly youre doing it wrong. Ive only had it for about two weeks, but now I cant imagine working on a computer without it. Bottom line, youll spend more than $14 on a round of drinks at a bar, a decent lunch or two tickets to a movie that probably isnt going to be that good anyway… its not that much to ask for something that completely redefines and improves your daily workflow. Buy it.
